Muralist: Richard L. Marks

Richard is a native of Colorado and currently resides in Kiowa, Colorado. He has been painting murals professionally for over 25 years and has also worked in the graphic design/fine art fields for over 20 years. “I did my first mural when I was 19 years old in the old Mammoth Gardens in Denver. I knew then that I loved painting large scale. I have always been fascinated with murals and their grand scale. Using this big canvas, I try to give the viewer a dramatic visual that makes them feel like they are in the scene itself. This can be done with color, composition and eye movement.”

“I am always inspired by nature and all of the design and beauty that is in it. So many of my murals draw upon that, while adding text and graphics to draw the viewer in. I really try to incorporate a deep sense of perspective in my murals to make them come alive and jump off of the wall. I incorporate brush work, rollers and air brush into my murals and I love the process itself. You go from a small sketch on a piece of paper to an 80 foot x 30 foot full color painting on a rough surface. And when viewed from far away, the painting comes together.”

Over the last 25 years, Richard has done many murals all over North America for high profile residences, restaurants, and commercial clients, including Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shops, and Texas Roadhouse.
